A bit of behind-the-scenes on a recent New York Times story.

Earlier this year, Amtrak proposed a project—which would affect Dutchess and Columbia counties—to install stretches of fencing and gates designed to block access to miles of Hudson River shoreline including the shoreline road, a drivable path often referred to as the access road or as the right-of-way. In Germantown, the river shoreline has been accessible to the public for many decades. 

Where do they get those stories. Like, this morning they had the bridge. Did you see it? Where do they get that story from? You know the bridge that used to go across? There was a big story about it in the paper. I wish they’d put that bridge back on there.

An 8,000-mile journey across the country.

"It’s obvious that Amtrak hasn’t done a good enough job explaining their intentions. Amtrak has committed to working more closely with local officials and the public, including hosting public meetings to explain their plans, along with listening to concerns.”

After striking a rock that caused a leak in their bow, Jones and Thornton packed mud, leaves and sticks to slow the leak and finished with a time of 1 hour, 5 minutes, and 43 seconds.

The Roe Jan Canoe Race, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, scheduled for this Saturday, April 28, 2018, will now begin at Bingham Mills in Livingston and paddlers will race through seven miles of fast water to the finish line at the Roe Jan Creek Boat Club. 

“When I go back to my office tomorrow, I believe that this should rise to the governor’s level,” Marchione said at Sunday’s Fight-the-Fences rally in Germantown. “I am going to take this message to our governor, who I believe will, and should, be willing to listen and stand with us on this issue.”

A bipartisan slate of speakers for the rally is taking shape. In addition to sportsmen, first responders and environmental advocates, elected officials will offer their views on Amtrak’s proposal, which is under review by the New York State Department of State.
