I've grown accustomed to writing stories as long I'd like, due to the luxury of having this website and its lack of space limits. So conveying a story in just a thousand words has become a major challenge.

I tried my best to do so, though, for a story I wrote for The New York Times, which ran in yesterday's paper.

The road to this story spanned four years, from when I wrote about the house's history for Berkshire Homestyle magazine in 2013 when Oak Terrace—Eleanor Roosevelt's girlhood home on Woods Road between Germantown and Tivoli—was on the market, to meeting with new owner Van Lamprou and his wife, Kimberly, at the Beekman Arms for an off-the-record talk in 2014, to many visits to the in-progress estate, to finally pitching the story to editors on the Metro Desk and receiving a greenlight.

There's a lot more background and information about Oak Terrace that I hope to share here in the coming weeks.

But for the meantime, I'll let the story in the Old Gray Lady speak for itself.
